Latino Medical Student Association Scholarship

The Latino Medical Student Association Scholarship, also known as the Dr. Alan J. Dessen, MD Memorial Scholarship Fund, is a merit-based scholarship program honoring Dr. Alan J. Dessen, who served as a staff member of Maryvale Hospital Medical Center (now Abrazo Maryvale Campus) for 38 years. Dr. Dessen served as Chief of Medicine and on the Medical Executive Board for over 13 years, and was board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. This scholarship supports students pursuing pre-medical and medical studies at community colleges, universities, and graduate programs in Arizona. The scholarship aims to support the next generation of medical professionals, with a focus on Latino students entering the medical field. Applicants must be enrolled in pre-medical programs at Arizona community colleges or universities, or in graduate-level medical education programs within Arizona.
