Latino Medical Student Association Scholarship

The Latino Medical Student Association Scholarship, also known as the Dr. Alan J. Dessen, MD Memorial Scholarship Fund, is a merit-based scholarship honoring Dr. Alan J. Dessen, who served as a staff member of Maryvale Hospital Medical Center (now Abrazo Maryvale Campus) for 38 years. Dr. Dessen served as Chief of Medicine and on the Medical Executive Board for over 13 years and was board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. This scholarship supports pre-med and medical students pursuing healthcare education in Arizona. Pre-Med students may be enrolled at community college or university level, with the requirement that the school must be located in Arizona. Medical students must be attending the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix Campus. Preference is given to students with Arizona state residency.
