About this opportunity
This scholarship was originally established in the early 1960s to honor the memory of Merceda LeMaster, a teacher at the then one room Orondo School. The entire community of Orondo has contributed to the growth of this scholarship fund. Among those contributors were Grady and Lillie Auvil who, wanting to assure the scholarship continued in perpetuity, made provisions in their wills. The fund came to the Community Foundation in 2008 through the estate of Lillie Auvil.
This scholarship supports graduating seniors from Chelan, Eastmont, or Waterville High School, with special emphasis on students who attended Orondo School. The committee seeks to award students who demonstrate financial need, leadership, academic potential, and participation in extracurricular activities. Students must plan to enroll in an accredited educational program in Washington State and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
The scholarship may occasionally be paid over multiple years. In the case of multi-year scholarships, future payment requires an update showing educational progress and a successful academic year to keep the scholarship in place.
