About This Opportunity

The Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art, the only center for scholarship on modern art located in an encyclopedic museum, offers four fellowships annually: a two-year Pre-Doctoral Fellowship, a Post-Doctoral Fellowship (one or two years), a one-year Mid-Career Fellowship for established scholars, and a one-year Non-Residential Doctoral Dissertation Completion Fellowship. These fellowships offer exceptional opportunities to conduct focused research on independent projects while contributing to the life of the Research Center. Fellows pursue research in art history and other humanities disciplines focused on visual arts, specifically modern art from the last third of the nineteenth century through the 1960s, covering architecture, drawing, design, film, painting, performance, photography, prints, and sculpture from any country, region, or culture. Fellows participate in writing workshops, works-in-progress presentations, gallery walks, and contribute to the Modern Art Index Project, creating a vibrant scholarly community at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
