About This Opportunity

This opportunity provides up to $18,000 to support the development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists by providing funding for a specific literary arts project. The program supports eligible literary genres including novels, short fiction, poetry, graphic novels, plays, young adult fiction, picture books, and literary non-fiction. Projects can focus on art production (development and creation of literary works), marketing (promotional activities and audience development), research (experimentation and exploration for new work development), or training and career development (courses, workshops, mentorships, and professional development in literary arts). The Alberta Foundation for the Arts celebrates diversity and encourages applicants from Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, women, people with disabilities, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Applicants must be Alberta residents who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Persons, and have lived in Alberta for at least one full year before applying. Collaborating artists, ensembles, and collectives are eligible if all project co-owners meet individual eligibility criteria.
