About this opportunity
This scholarship is awarded to a full or part-time student enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program who has completed the last five years of their pre-university education in Prince Edward Island. The scholarship recognizes students who combine strong academics with leadership qualities and service in the community, and who are not in receipt of more than $1,000 in other UPEI scholarships. The scholarships have been established by the Lockerby family in memory of their parents, Lloyd and Jean. Lloyd Lockerby was a distinguished educator and community leader who graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1933 and from MacDonald College in 1938, receiving the Governor General's medal for top standing. He made significant contributions to agriculture in PEI, particularly in fox ranching, and was recognized with numerous awards including induction into the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame. Jean Lockerby was a strong advocate of education, having graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1930 with a first-class teacher's license. She taught in several Island schools and was actively involved in heritage and cultural organizations. The scholarship honors Lloyd's deep commitment to community service and the agricultural community, and Jean's dedication to encouraging and supporting students pursuing post-secondary education.
