About this opportunity
The Loescher Great Lakes Scholarship is available to students enrolled in a program at the School of Freshwater Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. This scholarship was established by Michael Loescher, who has been involved with the study and enjoyment of fresh water since his early childhood in Wisconsin and holds a US Coast Guard Captain commission, along with his wife Linda Loescher, who has lived near Lake Michigan all her life. Both are passionate about the protection and sensible use of the Great Lakes and global freshwater systems.
The scholarship supports students pursuing education in freshwater sciences, with special consideration for those demonstrating passion for water, the environment, or atmospheric science. Recipients must be enrolled at the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences and have a completed and up-to-date Panther Scholarship Portal General Application and Awards Application.
Scholarships are typically awarded between February and April each spring and apply to the following school year. Students graduating in the same spring or summer in which the award is made are not eligible. The scholarship provides $950 to support students in their freshwater sciences education and research endeavors.
