L&R Support Fund

The Learning & Research Support Fund from the Glasgow Mathematical Journal Trust aims to support mathematical projects which have demonstrable benefit to mathematics across Scotland. This includes conferences, workshops and summer schools in Scotland, lecture tours in Scottish universities, and the publication of lecture notes or other monographs associated with such activities. Small grants are awarded to successful applicants, with awards typically up to £5,000, though applications over £3,000 require justification for why they merit an exceptional award. The Trust particularly supports events that demonstrate benefit to the Scottish mathematical community, including coverage of travel expenses for speakers and Scottish-based early career researchers and research students, conference dinners, catering, and research visits to Scotland. The fund operates through three annual rounds with closing dates on January 15, April 15, and October 15. Applications require a detailed case for support (up to 3 pages) explaining the purpose, budget, benefit to mathematics in Scotland, and other financial support sought. The Trust expects organisers to invite both male and female speakers and give consideration to enabling participation by people with children or family responsibilities.
