About this opportunity
This scholarship provides cash grants for two learners studying towards a programme in the eligible sectors, with the aim of recognising and encouraging learners through their study. It was established to help address the gender gap in the trades sector. Women make up only a small percentage of the trades workforce and face many barriers to entering the field. This scholarship is aimed at breaking down these barriers and encouraging women into trades that are relevant to the port industry, with the goal of supporting women who may face disadvantage or inequitable access to education which would otherwise create a barrier to tertiary study. The scholarship is available for students enrolled in various trades programs including carpentry, civil infrastructure, construction, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering fabrication, joinery, plumbing, gas fitting, and diesel mechanic trades at Ara Institute of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.
