Mackintosh Wardlaw Scholarship

University of St Andrews Original Source

About This Opportunity

The Mackintosh Wardlaw Scholarship was established by a generous donation from Alison Mackintosh 1953, in order to support students from Scotland and the rest of the UK in their studies in Science at St Andrews. The scholarship forms part of the Wardlaw Scholarship scheme, established in 2004 to provide financial assistance to academically gifted students who would otherwise struggle with the cost of studying at the University of St Andrews. The scholarship provides £4,400 per year paid as maintenance but can be used towards University accommodation fees. Maintenance is paid in ten monthly instalments directly to the recipient's bank account from September to May, with a double payment in February. Recipients can choose to off-set all or part of their maintenance towards University accommodation during matriculation. This award is paid annually for the duration of the student's undergraduate programme. Selection is based on financial need and donor-specific criteria. The scholarship is available to students studying within the Faculty of Science at St Andrews, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geography and Sustainable Development, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics and Astronomy, and Psychology and Neuroscience. Applicants must be from Scotland or the rest of the UK (England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and meet UK home fee status requirements. Scholarships in the Wardlaw Collection cannot be applied for individually but must be applied through the St Andrews Access Award application form. Core personal details may be passed to the benefactors with the recipient's permission, and scholarship recipients are required to submit an Introductory Biography and annual reports throughout their award period.
