About this opportunity
The £3,000 Macphie Scholarship is awarded to one second year student studying BSc (Hons) in Food and Consumer Science at Abertay University. The scholarship is paid at £1,000 per year and includes a paid summer work placement in the technical department at Macphie Head Office in Glenbervie, Stonehaven. The scholarship is aimed at a well-rounded individual who is considered academically bright, driven, ambitious, a team player, and interested in a career in the food and drink manufacturing industry. Students with financial constraints would benefit from the scholarship.
The scholarship is designed to support the student for three years of their degree and includes a 12-week paid summer work placement beginning at the end of May or early June 2026. Students must participate in the first summer placement to continue receiving scholarship funding in their final two years. A second summer placement may be offered before the student enters fourth year. The placement hours are Monday to Friday, 8am-4.30pm at the Macphie facility, though an alternative site in Glasgow may be possible.
Recipients are expected to write a letter of thanks, meet with Macphie representatives if requested, participate in promotional activities, and provide an end-of-year update on their progress. The scholarship specifically targets students entering their third year in September 2026 who demonstrate ambition to work in the food manufacturing sector.
