About this opportunity
The Margaret (Griffin) Mullen Bursary is awarded to a PEI single parent (male or female) who is a full-time student taking at least three courses per semester in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island. The bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need after the first year of study. This bursary was created in loving memory of Margaret (Griffin) Mullen by her daughter, Dolores Griffin. Margaret was born Mary Margaret McAvoy in Halifax in 1917, spent time in an orphanage, and was raised in a foster home in PEI. She married in 1939 and raised ten children while working to support the family after being widowed in 1965. A devout Catholic and strong believer in education, her personal desire was to become a nurse. This bursary honors her memory and supports single parents pursuing nursing education.
