About this opportunity
The Margaret Henderson Scholarship is designed to assist outstanding students undertaking studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. Established in 1993 from personal donations by Mrs Margaret Henderson, this scholarship supports students in disciplines including Brass, Percussion, Jazz, Keyboard, Organ and Church Music, Vocal Studies, Opera, Woodwind, Composition, Music Education, and Musicology.
The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, portfolio, and/or performance. For postgraduate research applicants, research achievements and potential are also considered. Where applicants are of equal merit, demonstrated financial hardship will be considered in selecting the successful recipient. The scholarship value and duration are determined by the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and will be stipulated in the offer letter.
This is an automatic consideration scholarship, meaning eligible students do not need to submit a separate application. Recipients must be enrolled or have an unconditional offer to study full-time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and must not be in the final two years of their degree. For coursework students, payments are made in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester, while postgraduate research students receive the scholarship as a fortnightly stipend.
Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic performance throughout the tenure of the scholarship, with coursework students required to maintain a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 each semester.
