About this opportunity

This scholarship provides financial support to students undertaking a practice-led PhD in visual art in the Sydney College of the Arts at the University of Sydney. The scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to students who are undertaking a practice-led PhD in Visual Art and is funded by the estate of the late Kenneth David Gilmore Edwards. Recipients must demonstrate financial hardship based on criteria including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity, low socio-economic status, carer responsibilities, long-term medical condition/disability, sole-parent responsibilities, regional or remote disadvantage, refugee status, LGBTIQ+ identity, and/or first in family status. The scholarship provides a stipend equivalent to the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate for up to 18 months to support completion of the doctoral thesis.

Review process

Selection based on academic merit, area of study and/or research proposal, personal statement addressing how the scholarship will support completion of studies, and evidence of financial hardship. Nominated by a selection committee comprising one Co-Director of Sydney College of the Arts and at least two other academic staff members.
