About This Opportunity

The Margit Althins Stipendiefond offers scholarships and research grants in geography to doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers who are active and employed at Swedish higher education institutions or other public research principals. Priority is given to researchers who have obtained their doctorate within the past seven years, taking into account deductible time for parental leave. The funding is specifically intended for Swedish geographers' travel expenses outside Sweden, Norway and Denmark, as well as for processing and presentation of results from such travels. Research grants of 250,000 Swedish kronor and above may be awarded and disbursed to the grant administrator (higher education institution or other research principal), with a maximum of 25 percent of the awarded grant permitted for covering overhead costs. Scholarships of up to 250,000 Swedish kronor may be awarded and paid directly to the applicant. Funding may be sought for purposes such as project operating costs, expenses for international stays, or conference travel where own research results are presented. For 2025, the available funding is 3,900,000 Swedish kronor. Applications must include a certificate from the Head of Department confirming the applicant's employment status and that the proposed research can be conducted at the institution. Doctoral students must also attach a certificate from their supervisor. Applicants will be notified approximately three months after the application deadline.
