About this opportunity

The Maria Petrou PhD Scholarship for Women is a prestigious academic scholarship offered by Imperial College London's Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The scholarship honours the life and work of Professor Maria Petrou (1953-2012), who was the first woman Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a passionate advocate for women in engineering. She was a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and made significant contributions to robotic vision, remote sensing, and image processing. This scholarship is designed to support women pursuing PhD research in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Applicants of any nationality are eligible for consideration. The scholarship provides comprehensive funding including full tuition fees (both Home and Overseas rates), plus a bursary set at UKRI rates with London allowance and an additional £500 per annum. Eligible applicants do not apply directly for this scholarship. Instead, if they have been made a PhD offer by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, an application can be put forward by their supervisor. Candidates are encouraged to discuss this option with their supervisor at their PhD interview. The scholarship is not available to continuing students, only to prospective students commencing their doctoral studies.
