About this opportunity
The Marie Wood Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Larry and Lea Wood in memory of Larry's mother, Marie Wood. Larry was the first in his family to complete a college degree, which he used to navigate several successful business endeavors. This scholarship honors the values Marie instilled in him that formed the foundation of his successes.
The scholarship targets students who embark on an educational pathway that can be accomplished with a two-year community college or technical degree, and who reflect the values of hard work, generosity, and 'showing up'—values that the Woods believe are the foundation of a sustainable path to employment or business endeavors that bring to life the recipient's skills and goals. Preference is given to first-generation college students and individuals seeking specific technical training.
The $5,000 scholarship is distributed over a 2-year period and may be used towards any need listed under the school's total cost of attendance. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be residents of Wake County, Durham County, Orange County, or Chatham County in North Carolina, and must attend or plan to attend Durham Technical Community College, Wake Technical Community College, or Central Carolina Community College. Applicants must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a two-year degree or technical degree program, with preference for those enrolled in business, entrepreneurship, or specific trade/technical programs.
