About this opportunity
The Martin M Gill Memorial Award is awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the second, third, or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. Selection is based on participation in athletic activities through Campus Recreation and/or Intramural Athletics, and academic standing. The award was endowed by Martin M Gill's mother, Connie M Langille, and family in memory of Martin M Gill, who died on August 17, 1986, at the age of 23. Martin was an accomplished athlete and commercial pilot who became a quadriplegic in a diving accident. Despite being paralyzed from the neck down, he completed the final two years of his Bachelor of Commerce degree with Honours, exemplifying determination and academic excellence.
