About This Opportunity

The Mary Ryan Language Scholarships are offered by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences at University College Cork. The college offers up to five scholarships ranging from a minimum of €1750 to a maximum of €3250 each for incoming undergraduate students who achieve 500+ points in their Leaving Certificate and are not in receipt of another University Scholarship. Recipients must register for at least two languages from French, German, Italian, Hispanic Studies, and Chinese Studies (Mandarin). The monetary award is allocated across each year of a student's degree programme, spanning 3 to 4 academic years. Scholarships are awarded in order of merit according to the standard UCC scoring system for Leaving Certificate results, as set out under regulations for admission in the University Calendar. Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the first attempt at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted. The Head of College has discretion regarding the number of awards to be made in any year. No application form is required for the Mary Ryan Language Scholarship. Successful students will be notified directly. The scholarship is offered to qualifying students ahead of the Quercus Entrance Scholarships. Students who accept the Mary Ryan Scholarship receive the title of Quercus Entrance Scholar but are exempt from the monetary award associated with the UCC Quercus Entrance Scholarship. If holders of the Mary Ryan Language Scholarship subsequently are offered and accept a Quercus Talented Student Programme Scholarship, they will retain the title of Mary Ryan Language Scholar but forfeit the monetary award associated with the Mary Ryan Scholarship.
