About this opportunity
The M.E. (Mickey) Cannon Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science Program (BSc) at the University of Prince Edward Island who identify as female, graduated from Charlottetown Rural High School, and achieved a minimum overall average of 80% or more after the first term of grade 12. This entrance award honors M.E. (Mickey) Cannon, who was a role model to her children, grandchildren, friends, colleagues and the many students she impacted during her teaching career. Born in 1928, Mickey graduated from Prince Street School with the Governor General's Medal as the top academic student, studied entomology at McGill University, and later embarked on a teaching career at Charlottetown Rural High School, mainly teaching geometry and chemistry. Her sense of humour, care for her students, and ability to excite them about science and math endeared her to generations of students. Mickey retired in 1990 and passed away in Charlottetown in May 2022 at the age of 94.
