About this opportunity
The Medical Student Indigenous Scholarship is part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Scholarship Scheme at the University of Queensland. This scholarship was established in 2011 by 26 individual donations and provides financial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program who are experiencing financial hardship.
The scholarship provides $5,000 in financial support for one year to help medical students focus on their studies. It is designed to support Indigenous students pursuing their medical education at UQ, recognizing the importance of increasing Indigenous representation in the medical profession.
The scholarship selection process considers demonstrated financial hardship, personal qualities including leadership potential, academic ability, and other factors relevant to future academic success. Only one scholarship is awarded per year, and applications open in September with a February closing date. Successful applicants must be enrolled full-time in the Doctor of Medicine program at UQ.
