Mermaid School Memorial Scholarship

The Mermaid School Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who has graduated from a Prince Edward Island high school, is entering their first year of the Bachelor of Education program at the University of Prince Edward Island, and has demonstrated involvement in community service. The scholarship was established by the Mermaid Women's Institute, which was founded in 1950 to support the educational needs of children attending the one-room school in Mermaid, PEI. Following the school's closure in 1972 and the sale of the property in 2002, the Mermaid Women's Institute continued its commitment to education by establishing this scholarship. Recipients are selected through recommendation by the Faculty of Education.
