About this opportunity

This grant program supports cleanup measures for contaminated soil on land and sediments in sea and freshwater that are polluted with health and environmentally hazardous substances. The program is administered by the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet) and aims to facilitate remediation projects for contaminated ground and seabed. For contaminated seabed, funds are primarily allocated to follow-up work on prioritized areas, including those identified in the action plan for cleanup of contaminated seabed and areas prioritized in the holistic plan for the Oslo Fjord. Funding can be used for activities such as mapping, investigations, action planning, monitoring, and physical remediation measures. The program operates on the polluter-pays principle, meaning funding is generally not provided where a responsible party for the pollution can be identified. Exceptions may be made when the responsible party cannot be identified or when urgent environmental action is needed.
