Miljø og naturverdier knyttet til mulig framtidig mineralvirksomhet på norsk sokkel

This funding opportunity aims to promote research collaboration between Norwegian research institutions and relevant societal and industry actors to develop new knowledge and build research competence necessary to meet important societal challenges. The research shall increase knowledge about biological diversity on the seabed where minerals are located, knowledge about mineral resources and geological processes, what consequences possible extraction could have for the marine environment, and knowledge about sustainable extraction methods and technological solutions for mineral activities on the Norwegian continental shelf. Projects must fall under at least one of four areas: knowledge about the deep sea environment and ecosystem in connection with mineral deposits, knowledge and geological understanding of mineral-forming processes on the Norwegian shelf, knowledge about effects of possible mineral activities on the seabed, or sustainable extraction methods and technological solutions for mineral activities on the seabed. Environmental perspectives must be represented in all applications, and the project must be limited to resources in areas on the Norwegian continental shelf that may be opened for such activity.
