About this opportunity
The Miller-Lanier-Central Foundation Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 to benefit graduating seniors from Central High School in Macon, Georgia. The scholarship fund was founded by the Class of 1959, who raised more than $35,000 to create the first endowment for a Bibb County public high school. The fund honors the legacy of three schools: Lanier High School (opened 1913), Sidney Lanier Senior High School for Boys (1924), and A. L. Miller Senior High School for Girls (1932), which merged to become Central High School in 1970 after integration.
The scholarship provides financial assistance to help college-bound Central High School seniors pursue higher education at accredited two or four-year colleges, universities, or vocational schools. Preference is given to students who may not be at the top of their class academically but demonstrate school pride and are likely to succeed. Recipients must exemplify Central's motto, "We Lead, It Can Be Done!" through their involvement at Central High School and their community.
The award provides $1,000 per year for up to 4 years, with four scholarships awarded annually (one new recipient selected each year). Prior recipients are eligible to renew their award for up to four years if they maintain eligibility criteria and complete required follow-ups. The selection process evaluates potential to succeed, personal character, extracurricular involvement, demonstrated financial need, academic success, and school pride.
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be accepted at an accredited institution, and plan to enroll full-time in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. The application requires a short answer response about school pride and demonstrating Central's motto, along with one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or mentor.
