Miriam Bland McMahan Early Childhood Education Scholarship

The Miriam Bland McMahan Early Childhood Education Scholarship supports full-time students at Eastern Illinois University pursuing a career in early childhood or elementary education. The scholarship is awarded to students who have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program and demonstrate strong academic performance with a 3.25 overall GPA and 3.5 GPA in their education coursework. Recipients must be from Illinois, preferably within 100 miles of Charleston or from Coles County. Applicants are required to submit an essay outlining their motivation to pursue a career in Pre-K through 3rd grade teaching, with preference given to those interested in 1st or 2nd grade instruction. The scholarship emphasizes identifying students with the greatest potential for lifetime success as elementary educators. Financial need is considered at the discretion of the selection committee.
