About This Opportunity

The Mātātoa Sport Scholarship is designed to foster excellence in sport and academic performance for student athletes at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. This scholarship supports the student athlete to retain a healthy balance of focus and commitment toward their programme of study, sporting commitments, and their own wellbeing, resulting in a rewarding and successful university experience. The scholarship is open to any athlete from all disciplines who are currently enrolled at the university. Recipients are expected to be active members of the Student Athlete Network, members of a Victoria University registered sport club, and available to represent the university at University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand events. Scholarship recipients serve as ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and are expected to represent the values of the university, participate in marketing and communication opportunities, and be active, vocal supporters of the university, its clubs, university sport, and their student peers. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 and is paid in two equal instalments in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2, with the second payment conditional upon academic performance and adherence to scholarship terms.

Selection made by a selection panel comprising academic and professional staff at the University chaired by the Associate Director, Sport and Recreation. Decisions of the Committee are final.
