About This Opportunity

The NAP Foundation Scholarship Fund was established to honor the legacy of Adele and Homer L. Shipman, Jr., who both passed away early in life and left behind two sons under the age of 17. The Shipmans grew up in Vidalia, GA and taught their sons independence at an early age. Mrs. Shipman was an outstanding high school basketball player and homecoming queen who was actively involved in her school and community. This scholarship provides college scholarships to eligible high school graduates seeking a bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). The scholarship is specifically designed for students who have lost one or both parents and are residents of or graduates from specific Georgia counties. The scholarship awards $1,000 per year to one new recipient selected annually, with up to four concurrent awards available. Recipients can renew the scholarship for up to four years if they maintain eligibility criteria, including a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA in college. Selection is based on the student's achievements despite parental loss, academic performance, athletic participation, school and community leadership, teacher recommendations, and financial need. Preference is given to minority students with demonstrated financial need, basketball, track, and soccer athletes, and those pursuing careers in aviation.
