About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on multiwavelength spectral and imaging studies of active galaxies (AGN), starburst galaxies, starburst-AGN composite galaxies, and ultraluminous x-ray sources using data from Suzaku, RXTE, Chandra, XMM, NuSTAR, Spitzer and Herschel observatories. Research includes AGN studies focusing on the iron K line and hard x-ray continuum to discern properties of the accretion flow, AGN survey research connecting X-ray properties with multiwavelength properties to study the connection between black holes and host galaxies, and studies on starburst galaxies examining the starburst-AGN connection, properties of starburst outflows and AGN jets, and the formation and evolution of massive black holes and nearby galaxies. The program also seeks candidates to assist with simulations of local and distant galaxies to help assess and formulate future X-ray missions.
