About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on developing data analysis pipelines for the Compton Spectrometer and Imager (COSI), NASA's next SMEX mission. COSI will observe in the 0.2-5 MeV range with a wide-field-of view and excellent energy resolution to uncover the source of Galactic positrons, probe nucleosynthesis products in the Galaxy, perform polarization studies of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), and provide detections of short GRB counterparts to gravitational waves. The selected postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the data analysis pipeline and software tools being developed primarily at GSFC and UC Berkeley, working with the COSI Science Team to perform simulations and predictions for COSI science observations. Applicants must have a strong programming background, preferably in Python or C++.
