About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on data assimilation for Earth Science at the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO), which supports the modeling and data assimilation needs of NASA's Earth science mission. Research activities include developing underlying model components to improve representations of processes in the Earth system, development of advanced modeling techniques based on AI/ML, developing and applying new techniques to assimilate NASA's Earth observations, and focused model experimentation to identify mechanisms of change in the Earth system. The fellowship is located at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
