About this opportunity
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented U.S. and non-U.S. scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on relating what is known about life on Earth to conditions prevailing on other planetary bodies, including assessments of the survivability of various types of Earth microorganisms and the formation and retention of biosignatures under non-Earth conditions (e.g., Mars, Europa). Research also includes efforts to assess the potential habitability of planetary environments other than those found on Earth. Fellows are expected to attend the Astrobiology Graduate Conference (AbGradCon) and/or the Astrobiology Science Conference (AbSciCon) using the travel funds provided as part of the NPP award.
