NASA Postdoctoral Program - Hyperspectral Investigations of the Composition of Volcanic Plumes

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on hyperspectral investigations of volcanic plumes at Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii, involving the processing and analysis of hyperspectral AVIRIS and HyTES data to estimate aerosol optical depth (AOD) from radiance spectra. The research aims to improve understanding of volcanic smog (vog) generation and dispersion, providing better constraints on SO2/SO4 conversion rates and supporting vog forecasting models.
