About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on reprocessing Voyager Grand Tour images from the outer solar system into new RGB composites using advanced digital image processing. The project aims to create true-color images of the giant planets and their moons, correcting historical color distortions and enabling new scientific investigations through artificial intelligence and machine learning. The envisaged project includes image selection, cleaning and preprocessing, image remapping, color adjustment and combining, comparison to data from other telescopes, and subsequent investigations of reprocessed images focusing on Jovian clouds, Callisto craters, Europa chaos blocks, Triton plumes, or other topics.
