About this opportunity
The NASA Postdoctoral Program offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific position is in the Planetary Systems Laboratory at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work in the Spectroscopy for Planetary ICes Environments (SPICE) laboratory. The position is strictly laboratory based, with the project aim to generate both outer solar system and ISM-relevant ice analogs by performing laboratory IR transmission spectroscopy spanning the far- to near-IR. The research will enhance the science return from past, current, and upcoming flight missions by determining the optical and chemical properties of pure, layered, and co-condensed ices embedded within a wide variety of astrophysical environments. A large emphasis will be placed on co-condensation studies to determine ice band position, shape, and strength, as well as optical properties at far-IR wavelengths.
