NASA Postdoctoral Program - Laser Interferometer for Gravity Wave Detection in Space

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on experimental studies related to classical and relativistic gravity, primarily focused on the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission, an observatory for gravitational waves. The research involves demonstrating interferometric performance at the 20 picometer level over thousands of seconds to support LISA's astrophysical studies of black hole dynamics. Additional research includes technology development for optical follow-ons to missions like GRACE and radiometric sensors for gravity mapping of celestial bodies including the Moon, Mars, Mercury, and moons of Saturn and Jupiter.
