About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on measurements of important atmospheric parameters, such as trace gases and aerosols in the troposphere and stratosphere. Research investigations will center on understanding atmospheric trace gases and their role in both tropospheric air quality and stratospheric ozone monitoring, including tropospheric pollution monitoring and their impacts on atmospheric chemistry. Candidates who have experience in active remote sensing of parameters such as winds, temperature, and water vapor content are also encouraged to apply. Candidates should have experience in the design, construction and operation of LIDAR instrumentation for the remote sensing of atmospheric chemical constituents and meteorological parameters. They should be able to facilitate LIDAR expertise in incorporating theoretical and working understanding of laser technology, specifically those emitting from the IR to UV. Experience is preferred in concept development, proposal writing, and overall technical insight for developing new LIDAR systems for automated operations in remote locations and for aircraft flights. This opportunity is closed to applicants who are Senior Fellows (5-years or more past PhD). The fellowship will be based at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
