About this opportunity
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on laser and lidar developments relevant to NASA's earth science priorities at Langley Research Center. The research involves developing solid state laser technology that is more efficient, compact and powerful, with particular emphasis on state-of-the-art mid-IR lasers at 2-micron wavelength for global wind and CO2 measurements. The position also involves developing lidar systems for atmospheric wind and trace gas measurements in ground and airborne platforms, including telescope and aft optics design, beam controlling, detector characterization, and signal processing algorithm development.
