About this opportunity
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. The Quantum Engineering and Sensor Technology (QuEST) Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD is seeking quantum engineers to advance quantum sensing technology for Earth science and space applications. This specific opportunity focuses on two research areas: cold-atom interferometry to build NASA Goddard's first cold atom interferometry laboratory for advanced laser cooling of Cs and Rb, and optical atomic clocks to build an ultra-precise Sr+ optical atomic clock with stability better than 10^-16. These technologies will enable next-generation Earth science, planetary science and astrophysics precision gravity measurements, as well as navigation in deep space and fundamental physics experiments.
