About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects. This specific opportunity focuses on ocean modeling and analysis at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. The ocean plays a critical role in the Earth System, taking up heat, carbon, and other gases, thereby helping regulate climate and climate change. Research will focus on understanding ocean-related processes using models, the coupled climate model modelE, NASA-GISS modelE-ESM, reanalysis products, observations, and machine learning in present, past, and future climates. Science themes include: uptake of heat and carbon in the Earth System, marine extremes, stability of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, and emulators of climate scenarios. Successful proposals will leverage observational and observation-based data of relevant geophysical variables, with emphasis on NASA mission products, reanalysis products, data assimilation and inverse models, and climate or ocean-only models. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
