About this opportunity
The NASN Endowment Education Scholarship aims to improve school nursing by assisting current professional registered school nurses or school nurse educators to pursue post-baccalaureate certification or graduate degrees. This scholarship originated as the Shirley Steel Award in 1994, named after NASN President Shirley Steel (1991-92) from Maryland, who was a strong advocate for continuing education for school nurses. The original award was funded by a personal donation from Past President Steel and the Maryland Association of School Health Nurses. NASN has continued to budget and annually provide educational scholarships to NASN members who are advancing their education within school nursing. The scholarship provides up to $2,500 to support educational advancement and includes complimentary registration to NASN's annual conference for the year of the scholarship. Recipients are selected based on benefit to school nursing practice (60%), impact on the community (25%), and educational goals (15%).
