About this opportunity
The National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship is a prestigious Department of Defense program that supports U.S. citizens and nationals pursuing doctoral degrees in science and engineering disciplines of military importance. Since its inception, over 4,700 fellowships have been awarded from more than 70,000 applications received.
The program provides three-year graduate fellowships to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional ability and aptitude for advanced training in science and engineering. Fellows receive financial support including stipends, travel allowances, tuition coverage, fees, and additional benefits. Each military service branch is responsible for mentoring and interacting with its selected awardees.
The program's core objectives are to increase the number of U.S. citizens trained in defense-relevant scientific disciplines, develop continuing relationships between fellows and sponsoring military services, and attract science and engineering graduates to pursue doctorates in DoD mission-related research areas at U.S. institutions.
