About this opportunity

Natursats is a comprehensive grant program managed by the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet) that supports municipalities, county municipalities, and Longyearbyen local government in biodiversity conservation efforts. The program has a total of 143.8 million NOK available for distribution in 2026. The main purpose is to reduce nature loss through land use planning and help municipalities implement measures that improve the state of nature while strengthening their work with biodiversity. The program aims to provide authorities with better knowledge foundations for choosing tools and making decisions related to nature management, land use, and nature interventions. Municipalities can apply for support across five main categories: 1) Developing or revising a municipal sub-plan for biodiversity, 2) Revising already adopted biodiversity plans, 3) Reviewing older land use plans to align with updated knowledge about nature values, 4) Local measures to conserve and improve biodiversity conditions, and 5) Measures that contribute to area neutrality. The program prioritizes applications that build knowledge about nature, which is important for work with natural capital accounting. Applications are processed on a rolling basis after the deadline with all applications aimed to be completed by the end of April.
