About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects. This specific postdoctoral fellowship focuses on stratospheric sciences, examining how Asian pollution, extreme wildfire smoke, and volcanic eruptions affect the stratosphere and ozone chemistry. The position involves analyzing balloon-borne measurements and satellite observations to study the Asian Tropopause Aerosol Layer and volcanic plumes. The successful candidate will work with data from optical particle counters, compare measurements to satellite observations for validation, and analyze numerical simulations from GEOS-Chem to understand transport pathways and impacts on ozone chemistry. The fellow will be involved in future balloon deployments in India and other international locations to make measurements in volcanic plumes or extreme wildfires reaching the stratosphere. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
