About this opportunity
This fully funded doctoral studentship is focused on providing evidence to UK decision-makers on pandemic preparedness investments and navigating the complex trade-offs during epidemics. The PhD candidate will develop modelling tools to project health, economic, and educational gains from pandemic preparedness investments, as well as losses under hypothetical UK pandemic scenarios. The candidate will utilize existing integrated economic-epidemiological models (e.g., DAEDALUS) developed at Imperial, UKHSA, and LSHTM to build a UK version for real-time outbreak response modelling. A particular focus will be on fiscal impacts considering alternative fiscal relief interventions, such as government transfers and subsidies to businesses. This PhD is embedded in a research programme integrating epidemiological, economic, and social disciplines using advanced data science and analytics. The supervisory team includes experts from Imperial College London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
