About This Opportunity

The National Institute for Health and care Research (NIHR) South Central INSIGHT programme (SCIP): Inspiring Students into Research Scheme is a new initiative launched in June 2024 as part of the NIHR Academy's expanded portfolio of career support for health and social care professionals. The University of Southampton and Oxford Brookes University are co-leading NIHR SCIP, in collaboration with University of Portsmouth, University of Winchester and Southampton Solent University. The NIHR INSIGHT programme funding pays tuition fees and provides a stipend (living allowance) of up to £20,780 tax-free. This opportunity is designed for early-career health and social care professionals who are working towards or have recently completed professional registration with approved regulatory bodies (excluding doctors and dentists) by September 2026. Eligible applicants must be at an early stage of their career with up to 5 years full time equivalent practice in their profession.

Review process

Applicants must first apply to study one of the eligible MRes or MSc courses at participating universities (Southampton, Oxford Brookes, Portsmouth, Winchester, or Solent), then complete a separate SCIP application form.
