About this opportunity

In 1999, NOAA National Sea Grant Office and NOAA Fisheries established a graduate fellowship program in two specialized areas for Ph.D. students. The Population and Ecosystem Dynamics track is for students interested in the population and ecosystem dynamics of living marine resources and the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing their status. The Marine Resource Economics track is for students interested in marine resource economics, concentrating on the conservation and management of living marine resources. Both fellowships provide up to three years of funding starting August 1. The program aims to encourage qualified applicants to pursue careers in these fields, increase available expertise in quantitative ecology and economic analysis of marine resources, foster closer relationships between academic scientists and NMFS, provide real-world experience through annual summer internships at NMFS facilities, and support graduate students from diverse backgrounds. Each fellow works closely with a mentor from NMFS who may provide data, serve on the fellow's committee, and host internships at participating NMFS Science Centers or offices.
