About this opportunity
The NN Danilow Scholarships in Modern European Languages have been established at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington through a bequest made by Ariadne Danilow. Mrs Danilow, born in Vienna and wife of the late Professor of Russian, Dr. N.N. Danilow, was a well-known Wellington piano teacher with a lively interest in European languages and literature, particularly Russian and German poetry. The scholarship is designed to encourage students to continue with their studies at Honours or Masters level in French, German, Spanish or Italian. Two scholarships of $15,000 each are awarded annually to New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents who are current 300-level students or Honours students intending to progress to higher levels of study in these modern European languages. The scholarship may be held for up to four years, provided the recipient continues in the course of study and successfully reapplies each year as the award is contestable. Preference is given to students undertaking a Master of Arts by thesis in French, German, Spanish or Italian, though students enrolled in the Master of Intercultural Communication and Applied Translation (MICAT) are also eligible to apply.
