About This Opportunity

The Nordic Scholarship Programme, offered by the Nordic Africa Institute, provides an opportunity for students and researchers engaged in Africa-focused studies at universities in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland to visit NAI for one month. The programme aims to contribute to building capacity in the production of knowledge about Africa, and to promote and establish relations with and between Nordic research communities. The scholarship is designed to facilitate use of the Institute's library collections on contemporary Africa, including books, periodicals, newspapers, and government publications. Participants also benefit from connection to existing work at the Institute through NAI research hosts. The programme is open to master students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers in the social sciences or humanities who are pursuing Africa-oriented studies or research. Scholarship holders are provided with travel expenses, free centrally-located accommodation in Uppsala, a workspace in a shared office at the Institute, and a subsistence allowance of SEK 400 per day. Additional benefits include free photocopying up to 1,000 copies. The scholarships are awarded once per year, with applications typically opening in September for the following year.
