About This Opportunity
This scholarship was established in 2020 by the generous bequest from Norman Haire to provide financial assistance to honours, master's by research, PhD students and academics who are undertaking research in sexology. Sexology is the interdisciplinary study of human sexualities, including human sexual interests, behaviours, identities, expectations and experiences. Sexology encompasses research into human sexualities using tools from a range of fields including biology, criminology, empirical cultural, feminist and queer studies, medicine, psychology and sociology. The scholarship aims to support research activities through funding for expenses such as travel for primary research, research assistance, purchase and/or reproduction of research materials, activities to showcase research outputs, marking relief, conference-related expenses, visits to the University by scholarly experts, or holding of conferences and seminars in a relevant field. Recipients must be enrolled in an honours degree, master's by research or PhD, or be academic affiliates in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. The scholarship provides flexible funding based on the merit and scope of the proposed research project or activity. Successful applicants are selected on the basis of academic merit, curriculum vitae (for students), budget summary and justification, and the research project or activity including its summary, relevance, significance, innovativeness, approach and methodology, outcome and impact, and any potential collaboration with relevant University of Sydney Centres and Multidisciplinary Initiatives. Research projects that contribute towards recognized research outputs are highly regarded. The scholarship value is determined by the selection committee and typically ranges from $4,000 to $18,000.
