The Norman Kirk Memorial Trust Pasifika Scholarship commemorates the Right Honourable Norman Kirk, Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1972 to 1974. Established in 1976, this scholarship honors his commitment to improving life for under-privileged people and building connections between New Zealand and other small nations. The scholarship provides support to New Zealand-based Pasifika students who are facing financial hardship and enrolling in their first undergraduate degree at Victoria University of Wellington. The award provides $6,000 total ($2,000 per year) for up to three years, subject to maintaining satisfactory academic progress. Recipients are expected to maintain a C+ average (GPA of 3) to retain the scholarship for the second and third years. Preference may be given to mature students pursuing 'second chance' education or training who are working towards a qualification that will equip them to make a greater contribution in the community.
